When hanging a weaving I like to use a slip knot because the loop is adjustable.
You can slip the knot up and down to make your loop larger or smaller.
Here's the steps...

After you've made your slip knot, loop it over the dowel, slip the knot down, and trim the end. Do the same on the other side of the dowel and you're all set!
I use this knot all the time, but to telI the truth, I wasn't sure what it was called...
so I looked it up in my knots book... and it wasn't there!
